Our adolescents and children deserve the right to emotional health

The Heartsmiles for Adolescents and Children Programme is one of the training programmes of the NGO with the vision of raising emotionally sound adolescents in our society. HACP seeks to address the emotional needs of children and adolescents and ultimately promote their emotional wellbeing.
Our School Project

As part of the efforts to join the rest of the world and other international and local non-governmental organisations in ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages (SDG 3); we desire to contribute our quota in ensuring that by 2030, there will be a one third reduction in premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promotion of mental and emotional health and well-being (Target 3.4). Findings have shown that more than half of all lifetime cases of mental disorders begin by age 14, and three-quarters by age 24. The HACP serves as a preventive approach to mental and emotional health disorders and ultimately reduce suicide mortality rate (Indicator 3.4.2); suicidal tendencies and depression in adolescents and children. Presently, we are training over 200 secondary school students on the skills of emotional and social intelligence across 8 schools with more efforts being made to cover more schools.
Our Emotionally Intelligent Teachers Project

We have identified teachers as one of the key-players in the actualisation of the vision of this programme and we also understand the influence of teachers on the emotional health of their students. Hence, it takes one who is emotionally healthy to impact positively on the emotional health of others.

The Emotionally Intelligent Teachers Project (EiTP) provides teachers of all grade levels with innovative strategies, as well as the tools and techniques required to increase their awareness of the importance of emotional and social intelligence skills and enhance their ability to employ such skills in their professional relationships.
